Spaces in Spacing: Framing Device

Framing Device examines the impact of composition and positioning in framing the way we experience a piece of reality. Using an unusual asymmetrical frame as the compositional backbone to this work, the images offer a window-like perspective of a cloudless night, with hints of a church and some unknown edifice nearby. Yet this selective composition in both the photograph seems to hide more than it reveals, covering more than it uncovers, and one is left wondering what is beyond what can be seen, and beyond the given perspective. The use of the predominantly white framing device also creates a stark juxtaposition to the rest of the elements in the photograph, heightening a sense of uneasy silence to this work.
